I like the Germans. One line of my family was a German man from the Black Forest region who married a French woman. When the came to the US they were German-speaking Lutherans and carried the coloring of both peoples until my generation.
We lost the language generations ago. I know just a little. At the university, I had a professor who was quite fond of quoting Shakespeare in German! He would also show us the German version of Hamlet, etc.
I am glad that Germany is united again and free. There are a lot of Americans that are of German blood. I wish I knew more about your country and language so that I could visit and talk to your people. I know that you must pronounce every letter or you end up saying something entirely different. It's not like English, with its many silent letters. Best wishes from a cousin.

Nearly all of my ancestors were from Germany or Belgium near the border, so I always thought they were great. It made me angry growing up as a child to have the schools blaming everything that happened in the second world war on Germany.
It taught me that the one who wins the war writes the history. This history then creates the popular fantasy. This fantasy creates a version of events that amount to little more than what the winners wish would have happened.
As for the German people, I love them. At times they can seem a bit controlling, but the intent seems always to be what they see as being in the best interest of all. People all over the world seem to be good people for the most part. It's governments who seem to be creating the problems. They are too easily swayed by money.
Love and blessings Don

I always like Elke Sommer. I never liked Adolph Hitler. All of the other Germans are somewhere in between.
We have been allies for about 60 years. There have been many great and recognized Germans, Einstein, Werner Von Braun. One of the all-time great music masters, Wagner, is still enjoyed by Americans today.
Many German immigrants came to the US and helped make it what it is today.
When we have International Festivals, the Germans are always well-represented with food, drinks, dancing, arts and crafts.
I thinks of Germans in Germany as friends. We may not agree on political issues, but I probably don't agree with my next door neighbor on political issues.

german is not the most populated ancestry in america. There are a lot more people here of English and African American ancestry, then Hispanic, Irish, Italian, and German following all of these.

I'm German and Prussian and I think that you are great. Perhaps if you are talking about HItler, that of course is neither here nor there, he only did what he knew and that which he learnt or taught later; we all fall into that trap.
Generally I heard tha you're aloof - suites me to a tee. I'm not exactly outgoing myself.
I just hope you don't do that movie star worship thing. Egads I think it's bad enough Americans do it.

You food is yucky though. Good beer, bad food :-)

my wife is mostly of german heritage and she has always wanted to go to germany, and we did plan to go there on vacation, but for 4 years in a row we were told not to go as there has been a lot of violence toward americans and we really werent liked or wanted over there so we cancelled all plans for a german vacation.
