DO NOT GIVE IN There a few techniques you can try; * Make sure she is safe, then walk away until she has calms down then go and talk to her *Validate her feelings, You seem really mad, You act like you are frustrated, Label her emotions, describe her actions-- *If she is throwing the fit because she not getting what she wants,then time out is OK, for about 2 min. for her age after the time out you need to tell her WHY she was put in time out. You had to sit there because you didn't use your words, because you weren't being safe...... * Make sure she is not hungry or thirsty. A lot of children need more water and this can help with controlling their out burst. * Children at this age are not able to always communicate with words so they cry, fall, kick and scream. Help give her the tools to manage. Give her the words and tell her how she can act . * If she is throwing a fit because she she wants somethings she should not always get that item. She needs to learn to wait. Sharing doesn't mean just getting what you want NOW, if it is something she can play with have your older child say you can have a turn when I"M done. and if it's appropriate let her have it in 2 to 4 minutes. Hope these suggestions are helpful. Tantrums shouldn't last to long if you don't give in to them and they learn to use words, and manage their bodies.
