It’s not odd at all.
First of all, it’s fitting for those who say that it’s reversed discrimination, which it’s not. If those same people would take the time and actually look at the history of the majority race they would see that Affirmative Action has always been in affect for the majority. People of color have had a history of opposition, by the majority, solely because of their skin color, when it came to jobs, housing, education, etc.
Secondly, to the person who responded by saying that if a person says that they are African-Americans that they are considered racists. That’s a bunch of crap! Way before blacks called themselves African-Americans, other races, in America, identified themselves by their ethnicity too (Italians, Jewish, Native American, etc.). Are they considered to be racists too?
Lastly, Affirmative Action will always appear to be unfair to those who feel as if their world is crumpling around them, and instead of looking within and solving the problem, they rather blame others for their shortcomings.
Affirmative Action was put in place for fairness (due to some people who rather hog everything for themselves), not to give special privileges to a certain race.
Be blessed and great question.

One of the biggest misconceptions about Affirmative Action is that it is fair. No, just the opposite. What it does is promote discrimination - just the opposite of what they say it does. And the myth that is widespread among blacks that Republicans are racist is laughable. Democrats need people to be poor so they can get more votes by promising people things. The day blacks leave poverty behind the Jessie Jacksons and Al Sharptons will be out of work. Alot of these people exist simply to keep the poverty going- especially Democrats. Why do you think the Dems want open borders with Mexico, to let more poor voters in. Sadly it is all about power. If you look at the Senators, far more Democrats are super wealthy compared to the Republicans.

I don't think it's odd at all. It's very disappointing, but in this country you can expect a LOT of disappointment. Like banning gay marriage and such. I've heard a lot of white people here in Michigan claim they've lost jobs to black people because they were black people, but it's just an assumption of racist white people to say that because that's not even how affirmative action works. This is just what happens when people don't bother to get the facts before they vote. If you want the facts, just go search yahoo or google for Affirmative Action Facts and see for yourself how it really works.

Every time a non-Caucasian person looses at/doesn't get anything it is because of racism. Until we can accept the idea that they might have lost out to a better qualified person we are dealing with prejudice. It seems to have become politically correct to assume that the non-Caucasian person is ALWAYS the better qualified one.
Before I am castigated in this forum let me say that I am a female who raised 3 children alone by working (usually at jobs that were not traditionally female) and poor. I have experienced the effects of prejudice and benefited (I guess) from affirmative action.
Affirmative action legitimizes using criteria other than merit to determine who gets the prizes. It changes the minds of no one. Those that are prejudiced hire "by the numbers" with little or no regard for the qualifications of those they choose. It demeans those it is meant to protect.

First of all , If you call yourself an Afro-American , you are a racist . We are all Americans , whether we are black, white , Mexican , Chinese , or even blue . Why do blacks have to have their own designation ? Are they not happy just being Americans ? By the year 2050 less than half of all Americans will be caucasion , We need to get rid of affirmative action because all it does is perpetuate racism by giving the blacks more than what the caucasions have . If we are all supposed to have been created equal , why can't a white teen from a poor neighborhood get a college scholarship , but a black teen from the same neighborhood receives a full scholarship . Where is the equality in that ?

I listen that white women human beings are the most important beneficiaries to affirmative action. i do not understand if that's authentic, yet even if it truly is, as a white woman, i hit upon this highly offensive. i do not want some authorities mandated pity party to get ahead in life. I do only advantageous on my own. And if some position does no longer opt to employ me because i'm a lady, then it extremely is their loss, no longer mine. i does no longer opt to paintings for such human beings besides. Affirmative action is legalized discrimination adverse to white adult males. If discrimination is so undesirable, then why do we sanction it? Why do we end discriminating adverse to one crew only to tutor round and do it to a special? I listen all this mumbo jumbo about how affirmative action is significant to "aspect the playing field," yet precisely at the same time as and how do we opt for that the playing field has been leveled? who's the authority which will announce this? Whites, as a collection, are literally outearned in annual earnings interior the U. S. by Arabs, Asians, Muslims, and African immigrants. Affirmative action is indefinite discrimination adverse to whites. provide me a resounding argument that announces that affirmative action adverse to whites will faster or later be rescinded because it really is been determined by someone of a few style of authority, i assume, that the "playing field has been leveled." it truly is a rhetorical command, by how. Affirmative action adverse to whites is definitely no longer rescinded, even at the same time as whites are a small and oppressed minority interior the U. S., because it extremely is the objective of affirmative action and maximum of its supporters: to oppress whites. Affirmative action supporters received't end till whites are on the point of the Untouchables of India.

You're SPOT on!!! I live in TN and Voted for Harold Ford. I listened everyday on the talk shows how it wasn't "racism" that was causing people not to vote for him..... People are racist sometimes without even being aware of it.... The phrase...I'm not a racist, some of my best friends are (.....) Well, I always want to ask, when was the last time you invited one of your best friends to your house for dinner???
It truly makes me sick to my stomach. I see it every day....in places where I have worked....The people at the top are rick, and white.....minorities will always struggle.
We are no further down the road than we were in the 40, 50's, or 60's.....Martin Luther's Dream will never be achieved because when little black and little white children try to play together, the parents jump in and screw it up and continue to teach and reinforce racism....it's just wrapped in a prettier package these days.......it's called living in denial!
Sorry for my tirade.....
It's really unfortunate but we will never as a society Some people really

Harold Ford his Senate race because Tennessee is a very Republican state. One over the top political ad does not mean that we need to give people special treatment based on things that happened hundreds of years ago.

Affirmative action is reverse discrimination. I live in Michigan and our voters did the right thing. Now if they would do away with racial quotas in our state Universities things would be on the right track.
You should get a job, be awarded a contract, or go to college on your performance or qualifications only, Not your skin color.

I hope I don't stand alone in saying that a person should not be rewarded for their class, race or religion any more than they should be persecuted for their class, race or religion. Affirmative Action is a classic double standard, not to mention reverse discrimination, and I am opposed to it.
