Have you ever noticed how some Christmas cards depict scenes of shoppers all bundled up and braving blizzard like conditions to do their Christmas shopping? What's with that, anyway? Everybody knows that most of the stores would be closed under conditions such as that! C'mon, get real.

It is a drawn and painted scene on a Christmas card, I don't understand what you are getting all worked up about, chill out, besides in the more northern parts of the country they probably do deal with those conditions on a regular basis.

Not in December they don't.

I live in a rural town in the midwest, and we just got a big snow storm with some ice mixed in.

Not a single store closed down. The only ones that were effected at all were the restaurants that open early for breakfast, they opened at 7 am instead of 5 am .

Wal-Mart, Penny's, Sears. Lowes, etc... all were business as usual!

Not in Vermont. I use to work in the mall. One time the Saturday before Christmas we got over a foot of snow, the mall stayed open and people were shopping up a storm. I lived about 15 minuets away from the mall and it took me almost an hour to get home.

it's part of the holiday "charm" and actually we just had a pretty bad snow storm and all the stores were open here... they don't close for anything.. schools closed but not the stores.. they want to try to profit from maybe some people staying home from work or school.. they get by with whatever staff shows up to work, and if some don't come in, they get penalized in a lot of businesses.

I don't know where you live but here where I live they don't close. I guess it all depends what climate that you live in -- if you are not used to that type of weather then your city will usually shut down (everything but essential services) if it is unsafe for the people to be out. Think about places like Alaska or Ontario, they are used to that type of weather.
