I think they should be parallel - if you say "good education" in the first sentene, then use good education in the second. If you leave out the word good, do so for both sentences. There is a difference between "education" and "good education." It depends what you want to stress. Did the mother teach that it is important to go to college period, or that it is important to get into an acclaimed, popular school with a reputation for excellence?
