Seems to me he's singing that loud because he has trouble hearing himself!
Perhaps the choir director could suggest to the parents that the boy be taken to an ear, nose and throat specialist.

If he's doing it repeatedly, it would be up to the choir director to step in and say something. Maybe you should discuss this with your choir director? He should handle it by being professional and respect the kid's feelings, but it should be a private conversation. By constantly picking on him publicly, I don't think it's being taken very seriously and that's why he continues to sing loudly. I wouldn't take action yourself or have friend's to help because I think it would really cause a lot of hurt feelings. Just my advice.

Get your choir director to sit him down and talk to him. I'm sure that if you have a good director, he will explain to him about blending and other choral techniques necessary for good sound. Personally, I'm for the concert band/marching band, but seeing as we had lots of concerts with the choir at the school I was in, I learned plenty of ways to get loud kids to shut up. (throws violin bow at perpetrator...;^) )

I understand what you are going through, the best advise you can give someone like that is to teach them how to sing in a low key tone, and help get them on the right note. And not make fun of them because that person my think that you are just playin around. So that is why they continue to sing loud when they need not.

tell the kid that since he is in a choir there has to be unity in the song and all the voices have to be at the same volume otherwise you don't respect the way to song has to be sung. this way he'll won't be so loud and he won't be hurt.

Take him out of the choir. My son is in choir and one of his fellow choir members were like that so, we just took him out.

Is he as loud as Jimmy Barnes? If so, try suggesting he has a future as a rock singer or tell him you "like" his voice and you think it would be suited to front a punk band, maybe he'll take the hint.

Just tell him he is too loud and that he is off, and that if he persists and doesn't change his style, he will be taken out of the choir.
One problem today is that adults are afraid to criticize children lest they "damage them mentally". The result is grown kids who explode with rage when given the slightest correction - such as "you shouldn't have just stolen that wallet."

So he has a pitch problem. You need to talk to him about. Your choir director isn't much of a director if they have not realise that he has a pitch problem and what they should do about it.
Help him with his pitch.
