why have pesticides been banned?

Think about it - pesticides are poisions that are intended to kill living creatures - not too good when those creatures happen to be pets, children, fish, or wildlife. You can find everything you want to know at this site:

Not all have, obviously. the main ones are those, such as DDT, which are very slow to breakdown in th eenvironment, so they pass up the food chain, and can cause problems in top predators, particularly birds. Here DDT was found to cause thin egg shells which break easily.
