Probably 'MISSPELT'!! You spelt it 'mis-spelt', which is wrong, and all those Americans spelt it 'misspelled' - which is actually equally acceptable, but because they constantly whine and pretend that 'misspelt' and 'spelt' are wrong I just HAVE to complain about it..!

Potatoe is probably the most FAMOUS misspelt word - but theatre and centre are frequently misspelt as theater and center too ... not to mention the fact that SO many people get neighbour and flavour wrong by misspelling them as neighbor and flavor...!!

The words in this answer that have been highlighted by my British English spell-checker are;
Mis-spelt
Potatoe
Theater
Center
Neighbor
Flavor

misspelt is often misspelled or just spelt wrongly depending on the way you pronounce the words you write because some people try to spell things phonetically you know spell it as you say it or hear it the thing that annoys me the most is people who do not use correct punctuation when they write they just go on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on without a care in the world without thinking about the person reading what they have written or the fact that if it is being read aloud that it sounds completely wrong is that enough Bye

Ok, first of all you misspelled "misspelled". Accommodation, address, barbecue, Dalmatian, hypocrisy, knowledge, misspell, misspelled, monkeys (not monkies!), Pharaoh, raspberry, surprise, vegetarian and Wednesday are very common misspellings. There are a lot more, but this is just to name a few!

There was an official top 10 a few years ago. I can't remember them all, but the top one was at the time was "received". My personal stumbling block, "necessary", came in at no 9.

Try there, their, they're.

As an English language specialist I still have to think about necessary, independent.
