My computer is about 6 years old. It is very slow and I think missing some files that are needed to play some games that used to work on it but now do not. I don't have the cash to get a new computer. Does anyone have the time to email me with some helpful hints on my options? I looked into bringing it to a local store to do some diagnostic checks and they want at least $200.00. If you can help, please contact me. This will be sort of a gift for my kids if I can get it fixed by x-mas.

Sure i can help u, as most of the tricks i do my computer works a hell lot!

Exactly what your computer needs is a big refresh~i mean it needs to get itself defragmented for the fragmented files on it!

* You may get your Windows system Re-installed to make it work faster.

* You may clean up your computers C-Drive by deleting the unwanted stuff to increase its processing speed

* U can go to start > run (tab) & type in "msconfig" , go to startusp option & remove the tick marks next to it so that those programs wont be loaded on startup helping to reduce your startup time & fast processing of CPU.

* go to control pannel > add/remove programs & Uninstall all the unwanted softwares installed ~ would surely run your PC faster.

* If some file lost problems, then get Norton System Recovery Software available at www.download.com to recover them.

*PC hit by viruses, bugs, bots ~ Get a Spyware Software frm the same sight & get those problems rectified!

These steps will surely bring a life back to your computer!
Give it a try...& feel free to ask if nemore quaries!
Good Luck ...!!!

pleasure gifting your kids a wrking PC this x-mas!

All is not lost. The best thing to do without spending lots of cash is to reinstall the Operating System. Put the operating system disk in the cd rom, shut down the pc, and reboot from the cd rom. Follow the prompts which will guide you through a typical install. If the computer is not online, do NOT install anti virus, because it will slow down the computer. In fact in an older system keep it as lean as possible - the less on the drive the better. Something that will help is just to increase the Ram. That in itself need not be expensive, and will certainly help with the gaming side. Open the Pc and unclip the ram stick, making sure that you touch the pc box first to release any static. Read on the stick what it is and if you can double it. Go online and you will find a tonn of ram sold for really good prices. Plug in the extra ram and away you go. A rule of thumb is to install ram in pairs.

Have fun and Merry Christmas to you and your family.

A 6 year old computer is ancient by today's specifications !
There is NO WAY to play high end games without spending a lot of money!
Try wiping the hard drive, and reinstalling windows etc.
after 6 years it will be full of clutter!

Working with a slow computer can be time consuming as programs/ applications take a long time to start. This problem is more pronounced in computers which have been used for 6 or more months. More information at http://fixit.in/slowcomputer.html

Mandy,

It would be helpful to know what version of Windows you are using IE Windows 98, ME, XP. Generally most issues can be easily fixed but more information is needed like what problem are you having and what errors are showing up?

On a Mac, shift/administration/3 takes a image of the exhibit screen. in case you press shift/administration/4, you may click and drag over the area you elect; the image is taken once you launch the mouse button.
