For many people, the hardest thing about percent problems is figuring out how to set them up. If you use a proportion (equal fractions), they are all set up the same way--no matter what you're solving for.
The basic proportion is
part / whole = % / 100
The number that is a percent always goes on top of the second fraction, and you don't need to worry about moving a decimal point.
The "whole" is always the number with "of" in front of it. Here that is "what number", so you'd use "X" for the whole. So you have:
2400 / x = 30 / 100.
You cross multiply ... 2400 * 100 / 30 to get the answer, 8000.
The nice thing is this method will work for EVERY percent problem. You don't have to learn different methods for different problems.

This is a quite simple basic algebra problem:
? x 0.3 = 2400
where ? is our unknown number,
first you need to get ? by itself, so divide both sides of the equation by 0.3:
?= 2400/0.3
now you just have a simple arithmitic problem, with a simple answer of:
?=8000
Now check your work by substituting 8000 for ? in the original equation:
does 8000 x 0.3 = 2400 ?? YES!
