I think he chose to give them the money because they were so nice to him when they thought he had nothing. They invited him round for lunch one day, fed and watered him dispite only knowing him for a day or so.

Well basically the couple were given £10k towards a deposit to buy their own home. They were living with the girls mother because they were in loads of debt. The husband was working 12 - 18 hour night shifts as a taxi driver and all his earnings were going towards paying their debts so it was impossible for them to save to buy a house. They were really kind to the secret millionaire and he met them at their local church and they invited him for lunch and treated him really well. At the time they just though he was a unemployed man making a documentary about living on benefits. The secret millionaire bloke basically felt sorry for the couple because these days, its so easy to get credit in terms of store cards or loans - companies just throw them at you. But in contrast, its almost impossible to get a mortgage if you don't earn much. he argued that having a mortgage is more beneficial obviously because it is an investment. So he just wanted to help them get on the ladder.

mmmmm, I saw it too, and to be honest I am from Liverpool and totally cringed quite a few times during the show!!!
The fella who was sat in the pub saying he was made up when he gets his benefits cos he can go the Asda and get 40 ciggies instead of 20 made me wanna punch him......no wonder scousers get a bad name with bums like him!
Anyway I didn't think that that couple deserved the money to be honest...they got themselves into debt didn't they????
I work with homeless males in Kensington ( where the show was filmed) and there are much more deserving cases in that area than those shown last night.......what also made me laugh was the asylum seekers......crying they had no money, but one had a Liverpool footy top on (40odd quid in mens sizes) and they were all smoking!!!
They looked alot better off than the fellas I work with!

i'm in ireland not uk but i seen the program. in his eyes they deserved the money because they couldnt afford the deposit for their own house. the husband worked 12 hour shifts as a taxi driver but they had mounting bills and they shared a house with a few other people plus kids of their own. he gave them a hand up not a hand out. even when they didnt know who he was the couple invited him round for sunday dinner even though they were in dire straights they still shared food with a total stranger.

he chose to help them because of their attitude, that they did everything they could to help themselves and had a good work ethic..also i dont think she was pregnant when he gave them the money as the bit at the end was a couple of months later
