In the first part, he is at the police station and takes the mini hourglass to have the thumbprint checkes. While he is there, he finds out that the case the picture was from was being looked into by Carl. He went to Carl and he showed him a book and asked why should he help? Taye's character was then arrested, and that guy who was tripping said he was the same. After he was taken into formal custody he was removed from his cell and brought to the quarry. Rita was shot in front of him.
Day resets. He is having lunch and is given Dodger tickets, which he then gives to the guy who processes the fingerprints so he can get it rush.
He goes to Carl's office to get the book and finds out it is takeout menus. He asks Carl for it and when he doesn't receive it, takes Carl hostage. They get into an arguement about how when they were partners they were never friends. As they're leaving Carl's office because he tells Taye's character that the book is in cold case, he says hs marriage to Rita failed because she had to save people and animals (remember the dog on the highway story) and he didn't need saving, but that is why she was with him. He confesses to the murder so that Rita won't get shot. (She is at the station, but a sniper gun is fixed on her). He gives up and Carl punches him and tells him that the book was in his car.
Day resets. He goes to the station and breaks into Carl's car an takes the book and leaves behind the amount of extra money Carl said he spent on coffee the previous day. End Show.
