yesterday. I'm black. I was attractively dressed and look anything but "criminal." These things still happen? Apparently.

Not that I have noticed, but then again I don't really pay attention to what people are doing in their cars as I walk by. I've had security guards stalk me in shops though and I don't come across like a criminal either.

It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with race though. Some people are simply paranoid and the person might usually lock the door and just forgot until they saw someone. I have a friend who is afraid of a lot of things and she gets afraid if she has to wait alone in a car for a while and she locks the doors and is scared every time a stranger walks by, no matter what they look like.

Don't let it bother you, the person who locked is the one with the issues. Just carry on with your life, you'll see a lot of strange behavior in life and it's not always a race thing.

Locking car doors when there are people nearby is called being smart.

No, I've never had it happen to me. I have locked mine though as others go by. Color has nothing to do with it.
