This is actually an interesting question and I'd love to know the actual answer.
But because it's late and I'm tired I'm going to give a silly one - I think it's quite possible, based on the way most people behave these days, that they're not using any of their brain when they're awake, and their brain probably crawls out of their skulls at night to get some fresh air.
And now I'd better go to bed - the brain's getting fidgety up there.

Is a bit difficult to ascertain. Inasmuch as there is a different part of the brain being used. There are more various levels or wave lengths capable of being used, when the conscious mind is not actively controlling most of the activity. All based on the 5 senses and the imagination.

I believe we use more of our brains because there is
no interruptions while we sleep. I also think that when we are asleep we are actually using more of our right side
of our brains because we are dreaming which is
creative thought. Just my opinion.

they say the women continue to use an important percentage...like 70-80% while the men enjoy their sleep :), using 20-30%.
