okay, i slammed my finger in the door about two weeks ago. it hit the base of my nail and the whole think turned blue, swole up, and the nail fell off. where it use to be is just skin now... like it doesnt hurt or anything to touch it... now im scared the nail will never grow back, like the nail bed died or something... anybody been through the same thing and it still grow back?

It should grow back, Nail beds are pretty tough.

it will probably take 6 months or so to fully grow back

Tip for the future: When it gets all black/blue and swollen you can take a pin and warm it up on the stove and poke a hole in the nail to relieve some pressure from under the nail..

it will grow back.. funny thing, I just slammed my thumb in my trunk 2 days ago and have a blue/purple nail myself.. waiting for the fall off part now...lol The doctor says the nail will grow back it takes time though. I share your pain...literally

YEP, WHAt color is the nail bed. if it is black, it may not grow back. If if is pink, it should. The only thing is it needs to wait for the trauma to die down. It may take a while.

This is a may or may not thing. You said the "finger" not the finger tip right?

If it was damaged it may not. The body is a wondrous thing, you may have to wait for regeneration but after awhile it may come back.

ewww! yes the nail will grow back... try to keep the area clean- especially if opened
