lesbian or gay? which is more socially accepted?

It has alway seemed to me that lesbian women are more accepted than gay men? Is this the case and if so why?

i dont think so i was say they are both socially accepted now, maybe lesbians are accepted more because women are more understanding, and some men get off on lesbians

I would agree that lesbians are accepted to a greater extent than gay men and i can think of only 3 reasons for this

1) most men fantasise about lesbian sex

2) Women are 'allowed' to have more intimate relationships with each other than men even if they are heterosexual so the leap from friends to lovers in women is not as big as the leap between men. (Not as much trouble for people to get their tiny minds around)

3) A lot of people don't think that sex between two women is possible.

I'm sure there are lots of reasons but these are the three that spring to mind.

This question depends on what members of society you ask. Most educated people, will say they don't care what your sexuality is. then again the underclass aka chavs, will hate gay men, but will love lesbians. Strange eh?
Personally speaking, i have many gay and lesbian friends, and, there my mates, there sexuality dont come into it at all.

i think like that is any incorrect way around thoroughly yet the place I stay that's the different. If you are generalising then lesbians without a doubt but for me personally i would say neither are socially accepted in reality humans are very good at hiding their emotions so even if they really think they OK with it they are not their body language will give them away every time. That is true lesbians are more accepted by society.

The reason is that gays (including dykes) are seen as rejecting their own sex. Lesbians are often thought of as enjoying and appreciating the beauty of their own sex.

Since they dont give up their femininity they are not shunned.

I think it has to do with the fact that females do not have the equipment to become involed in sodomy. I imagine that is the deciding factor for most heterosexuals. They see the penetration of the anal cavity as gross and unnatural. I personally feel neither is right as they both go against the teachings of God. I also see it as a personal preference thing in that, a sin is a sin, and since no one is sin free then none of us can or should cast the first stone. And quite frankly, what anyone else does in the privacy of their own home is none of my business. I don't flaunt my sexual activities and expect the rest of the world to afford me the same modicum of respect, be they hetero or homo-sexual.

In general terms, in the straight population - from my own observation
if you depict two attractive females intimately kissing, it will very acceptable.
two dog-faced dykes intimatley kissing would not be socially acceptable.
two men intimaelty kissing would not be generally acceptable, whatever they looked like.
Even liberal people tend to think that they should save that sort of thing until they are in private.
