I own a 1996 Ford station wagon and I am taking it to the shop on Saturday. I just wanted to get an idea of all the possiblilities of what could be wrong with my car and the cost, so I can know what to expect.

When I drive the car @ a speed of any where from 30-65 mph when it suddenly slows down and I press the gas and it won't accelerate. I have to pull my car over take the key out and restart the car and it starts to drive normally and then it stops on me again. In a 5 min car ride the car stopped on me a total of 3 times. once i restart it, it starts up again with no problems.

Sounds like the fuel filter stopped up. When the pump stops working the trash settles and lets the car restart.
It also could be an obstruction in the exhaust system.

The fuel filter shouldn't cost much. The exhaust is a different story. It will depend on the shops flat rate as to what it will cost.
It more than likely is the filter though. Hope this helps.

Fuel filter yes... but I think fuel pump on it's last legs..Ford fuel pumps I've seen go through some very clogged fuel filters... But if the pump looses pressure you are coasting...

Any reputable mechanic will hook your car to a diagnostic test machine that should tell what is wrong. That will run about $75. They should then be able to give you a good idea what you're looking at. Good luck.

Since that's a 96 ford wagon, it might be your fueling system (lines, pump, carburetor). Tell them to check your fuel system first.
