Lucifer was an angel, but he became proud and wanted to be equal to God... and rebelled, and became Satan. Here the evil starts...

Suffering for man (I'm referring to all mankind) started only after man partook of the tree of knowledge. Before that, man only needed to enjoy God in the garden of Eden by partaking of the tree of life. By man choosing to partake of the fruit from the tree of knowledge, that was choosing Satan's side, i.e. independence from God. Moreover, God clearly said to Adam and Eve, they could eat of any fruits, except from the tree of knowledge... so it was also disobedience.

Anyway, thereafter, there was suffering ordained by God for man... for man (male) to till the ground etc... for women to suffer in child-births. Suffering can actually be a good thing sometimes, despite people generally consider it as a bad thing. For instance, someone who has suffered in their life is more likely to be a better person and more humble than someone who had an easy life.

Of course I can only give you answers from my empiracle knowledge and Philosophy that I have read. I believe evil and suffering come from different things. Evil is a response to nurture and what you are surrounded by and how it effects you. Most people who are deemed evil really are not "evil" like the bible or a movie may portray. Few individuals are truly evil and still contain some good in them. Watch the original Star Wars trilogy and the seemingly evil Darth Vader turns out to have been misguided by the forces and temptations of what the dark side had to offer. Suffering comes from anything and everything. It's a very Buddhist notion. When you think about it though, everything causes suffering but the trick is to realize the suffering. In Buddhism it's the attachment to these thins that causes suffering. There three kinds of suffering, physical pain such as a toothache or foot cramp then there is the suffering that comes from change such as our liver originally healthy, having problems from external choices or old age. The third kind of suffering is from not realizing that everything is impermanent. Life is impermanent, the mountains existence is impermanent, a relationship is permanent etc but we tend to cling to things and hope they last forever.

Satan (the devil) does his best to work on everyone's weaknesses and also cause confusion. After this has occurred, the human race does the rest themselves, whether it be in the name of greed, religion, race, etc. The only way to free the world from evil and suffering is for everyone to turn to God, love and respect one another and be more willing to give rather than take. However, it needs to be a worldwide effort to obtain a totally successful result.

Philosophers have asked this question for ages.

It depends on your persuasion. For examle, I do not believe in the existance of evil, I see it as man shifting blame. Suffering is the universe testing us.

For your persuasion, the answer is God. God could easily have prevented Addam and Eve from eating that pomegranite, which he created which would impart evil. Satan only catalysed the descent. But God could have also prevented further suffering, yet he did not.

Some philosophers think that evil is an illusion, some kind of God's play of hands, made to improve ourselves trough suffering and giving us freedom of choice, yet, that it is ultimately for the greater good and therefore not really so evil.

It came from the actions of Adam and Eve. Through the Lord's grace and Jesus sacrifice, we have been given the chance at redemption and the possibility of eternal perfection.

I think it depends on what you believe. I believe that evil comes from the devil who was good until he got proud. If you follow that chain of events then evil comes from pride.

Evil comes from human nature, it is in our nature to be greedy even at the expense of others. All other evil comes from a vicious circle of "getting back" at people.

Yay a serious answer from me!!
