Normally, no, but surprisingly some elevator systems do take these things into account when queuing their stops. Other elevators have special sequences that will make the elevator enter an "express" mode and arrive where you want it with no intermediate stops. These systems are often used when the traditional key for the elevator would be unfeasible.

Most of the time, though, it won't make a difference, and the effort put into pressing the keys several times actually makes it seem slower, as people subconsciously expect it to arrive faster somehow.

Psychologically speaking that action only tends to raise BP, and heart rate, frustration, and angst, when we seem to be in a hurry to gain seconds rather than consider the length of, and moments in a LIFE!

The "call" to the elevator was received in the first "push"

That isn't a promise that others in whatever multiples of levels the building has, aren't also doing the same thing, at the same time, or within miliseconds of each other, hence giving the elevator more work, and YOU, more time to contemplate that WAITING might be the option to climbing or descending stairs.

Take a deep breath, pull out your cell phone, and scroll through ring tones. Music has ways of soothing the savage beast.

No. The control panel is controlled by a computer. Once the button is pressed the computer starts acting out its tasks. Pressing the button repeatedly does nothing to slow or speed up the process. Sometimes there is just a pause before the elevator starts and people who lack patience think the elevator is slow and start pressing the buttons to speed it up.

Well I like to think it will make it come faster when I keep pressing the button but I don't actually think it does.

I always used to tell my kids when they were little that it actually makes it come much slower. Only push it once, and then wait with a smile and think about something else...
(it helped teach them patience!)

No it doesn't, but I guess people press it more than once to make sure it worked the first time. And to convey to other people that they're in a hurry.
