and it says i need a memory card inserted to play what can i do besides get a memory card

For games that saves sessions, a memory card is required, no bypassing it, PS1 hardware is in no way expandable by today's standard.

You can use a PSX memory card on a PS2, but I don't think you can use a PS2 memory card on a PSX (that would be forward compatibility, which doesn't exist as of now).

The only way you're going to save any games is to get a PSX memory card. You can probably get a used one from Eb or Gamestop. I don't think Sony makes PSX memory cards anymore since it pretty much shut down production of PSX.

you can use a ps2 memory card for your playstation one they are only 10 bucks.
if it says you need a memeory card there is no way around it unless it gives you the option to continue playing without saveing
