What about listening to radio online? A lot of the stations stream online these days, and Yahoo has free jazz radio stations online - http://uk.music.yahoo.com/launchcast/stations/category.asp?i=72

I'm not sure about specifically the West Midlands, but what I just found out a few minutes ago is that if you listen to Heart FM online (yeah I know, a bit sad!), a Windows Media Player comes up. On this menu is a tab entitled 'Radio Tuner'. Click on this, and then 'Find More Stations' and you will have access to hundreds of jazz radio stations from all over the UK/World.

Try this station via the internet, it's a great station for real jazz during the weekdays. They broadcast from the jazz capital of the world, New York City.
