Thorstein Veblen is the first economist who contributes in writing in the term and concept of "conspicuous consumption" a criticism of consumerism, maybe he is the founder together with the criticism of Karl Marx. Hope so!

Henry Ford was the founder of the Ford Motor Company and father of modern assembly lines used in mass production. With mass production consumerism would not be possible.
