After 3 or so weeks have passed, it is considered normal for a baby to only have one bowel movement per week. It could also be a sign that he is not getting enough to eat or that the formula is upsetting his digestion.
Continue breastfeeding on a regular schedule, switch to a soy based formula if you haven't already, and keep an eye on him. Constipation is characterized by straining, not by the absence of a bowel movement. Make sure to see a doctor if no change in about 3-4 days, and if everything is OK by then, still try to remember to bring it up and the next Dr. Appt.

I think you are doing a really good job taking care of your baby! Being worried all the time is very normal, I know it from my own experience! My baby was on the breast almost all the time! It's not only for food babies do that but for comfort also! As long as you nurse your baby for as long as he wants and as often as he wants he will get all the water and nutrients he needs from your milk. Just make sure you let him empty one breast before switching her to the other. Signs that baby is getting enough milk are: -he's having at least five large, mustardy poops a day -his nappy is wet when he's changed before each feeding -his urine is colorless -you hear a lot of gulping and swallowing as your baby nurses -he seems happy and content after most feedings -you experience the sensation of let-down and/or experience milk leakage If you are sure your baby is eating enough then maybe you can try a dummy, I wish I gave my baby a dummy because he was using my breasts as dummies! I found that the cream "sudocream" helps my baby's rashes and if used all the time, prevents them. It is normal for the soft spot to be a little sunken and to pulsate, that is the cerebral pulse and it's normal. I would advise to take your baby's poop for a test because a frothy poop might indicate milk intolerance sometimes. Baby will get all the nutrients he needs from you even if you don't eat and drink properly but that doesn't mean you shouldn't eat! You should eat well and drink at least one glass of water before each feeding. It's very important for YOUR wellbeing that you do that! If you suspect that your baby has colic get him simethicone drops or syrup. It's harmless and eliminates gas. Simethicone is sometimes sold as Infacol so check it out. It was a Godsend for my baby! Now, it sounds like you have a post-natal depression and that is very serious! You should see a doctor about it. It's very important that you do. And talk to your partner about all this. He should be helping you even if he works. He works his 8 hours a day and that's it but you are on a job 24/7 with no coffee or cigarette breaks. Explain to him how hard it is and wake him a couple of times at night to change a nappy. Maybe he doesn't realise how hard it is for you. Lastly, please keep breast feeding! It's the best for your baby. Don't give up unless the doctor says you should! Another doctor, not the one that is not taking your concerns seriously! And if you can't stop worrying, call the on call doc, it will ease your mind. And please go see a doctor yourself! Post-natal depression is very serious! All the best and I hope things get better for you and your little angel! You are a wonderful mother! God bless

I had the same trouble with my daughter. Fist of all consider your daughter may actually not be getting enough milk. when she was pooing was it dark and hard? that is one sign. we tool our girl to emergency one night cause we new something was wrong since she was crying so much. They used a Q-tip with mineral oil on it to stimulate her to poo. don't insert it just go around the opening. it is very effective!! We used this method anytime she needed it and it helped a lot. Do take her to see her pediatrician as well to rule out any other possibilities. The Dr can see if he has gained any weight since birth. If he hasn't chances are he will need more formula to supplement the breastfeeding. You can also change the formula that you are giving during the night to a low iron formula. Good luck your family.

Don't get scared, newborns get constipated sometimes. take the baby to the doctor & get a prescription for glycerin suppositories. My little sister needed them for her first 6 months on & off. The Doc will also make sure the baby is getting the nutrition it needs

My baby was on a soy formula and it constipated her--my dr. told me to give her watered down prune juice or watered down apple juice. That did the trick. But your baby is alot younger than mine was, so call your dr. and ask what you can give before you do anything.

Newborn babys can go up to 1 week without pooping believe it or not. When he does go, it will come out of his diaper! ! I would'nt think he is constipated if he does'nt seem in pain, however, if he ever really is, put a baby spoon full or two of prune desert ( Gerber ) in his bottle. If you want to, you could even feed it to him with the spoon. It does no harm and it will help him go. Good luck! !
ps. Don't try to stimulate him with a thermometer. It is NOT RECOMENDED.

You need to take him to his pediatrician. He could have a physical defect that is causing an obstruction in which case he will need emergency surgery.
It is way better to be safe than sorry. Take him in and don't wait for an appointment.
