We're not super geeks, but my boyfriend and I love to argue over this. We're curious what the majority thinks.

its really a toss-up........i like The Flash myself........

but, anyone who says Superman is just a fool.....he is without a doubt the worst hero ever........he has every power imaginable and is impervious to harm........wheres the fun in that.........you know hes always gonna win.......he cant even be hurt.......

its like when youre a kid and you make up your own superhero, but then keep adding powers as you go along so your friends cant beat you.......

Dr. Doom-

He has something beyond an "anti-hero" mentality, he is so far beyond humanity yet he was born a normal human that traditional concepts of hero or non hero don't apply.

He is definately benevolent, as his people love him and he has brought only prosperity to the country of latveria.

He has actually also given good rule and brought utopia to the world. In the graphic novel Emporer Doom, he rid the world of poverty, war, famine, crime, etc. and the only catch was that he was the emporer of the world- but he gave good rule. A small trade off, guaranteed utopia for choosing your ruler? Even Captain America said they did the wrong thing when they resisted him in the end.

Brains and willpower, doom is one of the most powerfull characters in the marvel universe (and dc) through sheer force of will and intellect, you think batman has brains, batman is like a child compared to the intellect of Dr. Doom, he has proven time and again he is the most intelligent character in the marvel universe (excluding certain omnipotent forces like eternity and death). He cured Susan Storm when no one else could, thus finally winning the victory over reed richards that he desired, proving him the more intelligent.

Doom is the second most powerfull sorcerer in marvel (behind dr. strange only) and combines magic with technology, and is one of the most technologically advanced heroes in marvel.

Doom outsmarted mephisto to win his mother's soul's freedom.

Future stories tell of how doom becomes immortal as well.

There is not a single comic character as tormented who has overcome these obstacles as Victor Von Doom. Therefore he is the greatest superhero of all time.

I'd have to go with Spider-man, Batman, and Punisher.

Spider-man because you can sometimes relate. He has some of the normal problems that everyone has. Relationship issues, feelings of doubt, and having to deal with being mocked all the time.

Batman is not only smarter then Superman, but he's also a lot more determined. He doesn't have superpowers, so that fact that he is pure human, and still able to do some of the things he can do (even if he is just a fictional character) is just awesome. And his strong determination to never use a firearm.

Punisher because who hasn't wanted to just annihilate all the murders and rapist and drug dealers in the world?

Wolverine:
Anti Hero mentality. Resourceful. Self Sacrifice. Dark past.
In a fight will make an enemy pay if they make a mistake.
Abilities:
Regenerative healing factor
Slowed aging process
Adamantium-laced skeleton and retractable claws
Superhumanly acute senses
Superhuman strength, stamina, agility, and reflexes
High resistance to telepathy

Quoted as " Wolverine's vitals during a Danger Room training session,... Logan's physical and mental state is the "equivalent of an Olympic-level gymnast performing a gold medal routine whilst simultaneously beating four chess computers in his head."

Even with recent Comic revealing more an more about him his past is still a mystery.

Hope the link helps

A couple in my opinion: Wonder woman, Raven from teen titans, Batman, very smart, the Xmen! Lestat from Rice chronicles. In fact Lestat is My hero at the moment, he is so brave and so resistant to suffering.

There are a lot of heroes I could pick, but there was one that stood out for me in terms of his heroic self-sacrifice.

The Legion of Super Heroes introduced a character who called himself ERG-1. He was a young astro-engineer who was accidentally converted into anti-energy, and survived only by being contained in a special space suit.

He could simulate nearly all the powers of the Legion of Super Heroes. He could fly, grow, shrink, had incredible strength, was invunerable, he could turn desolid and go through walls, see and hear at vast ranges, create elements and alter chemical reactions.

Yet, despite all this power and the fact that he was offering to use it for the good of society, the Legion turned him down.

Why?

Because of a by-law in their constitution, which required that every hero have a unioqe power that none of the others had! (Let's overlook the fact that Superboy and Supergirl had identical powers, but they let both of them in.)

When pressed, ERG-1 admitted that he had a unique power that none of them could match. But when they demanded that he demonstrate it, he refused, and as a result, his application was rejected.

Shortly afterward, the Legionaires blasted off to respond to an emergency call for help. Phantom Girl, Chemical King, and Colossal Boy went to the planet Manna-5, an agricultural world with good soil, clean air and water, where crops were grown that fed people on dozens of planets.

Criminals had demanded protection money from the sparsely populated and poorly defended world. When their demands were not met, they unleashed the Devourer, a city-sized machine that would methodically strip the crops from the planet and lead to starvation for billions.

The thing was armored and Chemical King's bursts of Cobalt-60 didn't even dent it. The thing's outer hull was also energized, which knocked out Phantom Girl when she tried to pass through it to disable it from inside. And it was big enough to knock down Colossal Boy when he grew to his fullest extent.

It was programmed not only to be crop-eating, but to be MAN-eating, as well! Colosal Boy was about to be devoured.

Just then, there was a sonic boom as ERG-1, who had stowed away on their space cruiser, came to the rescue.

He opened the faceplate on his suit. There was an incredible burst of energy which practically vaporized the Devourer. Colossal Boy was saved.

But when Colossal Boy and the others went to thank ERG-1, they discovered the terrible truth. He had released ALL his anti-energy in that one fantastic burst. There was nothing left of him but an empty space suit.

ERG-1 was the first person to be made a Legionaire posthumously, and he earned it.

Although the readers didn't know it at the time, eventually ERG-1 was able to gather his scattered photons together and cross space to return to Earth, where he rescued the Legionaires from another menace and regained his containment suit which had been put on display in a memorial to honor him. He joined the Legion and was renamed Wildfire.

"Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."

But, like Jesus, ERG-1's willingness to sacrifice himself, to lay down his life to save someone, always stands out in my mind as the mark of a true hero... because he was even willing to die to save those who rejected him.
