try different keys, for my @ sign i have press(£) you may have the settings wrong, my keyboard is setup for usa, but cant be bothered changing back it just yet.

Do you have a British keyboard or a USA one? It could be that your computer thinks you have a USA keyboard when you are using a UK one or vice versa. UK keyboard @ is shift ' and on a USA keyboard it is shift 2. Try these two key combinations to figure out what your computer thinks you have!

Clean your keyboard. my number 5 packed up and when I had a close look there was a lump of congealed ketchup between the keys!

personally i would check the keyboard layout in control panel
different languages such as usa have different layouts
to change just select the change language settingto the country of your choice and it will work after a reboot

some machines the keyboard region is not set try setting your region control panal regional and language settings also try the double quotes key board symbol sometimes this is set in place also hope this helps

i had this same prob once.. try pressing shift + ".. i think tht mite be ur @.. like said b4 try other keys also...
