thanks so much for your answer. However she has not had it cut. It fills and drains on its own, so this tissue appeared on its own after the last drainage. If you could provide any more info I'd be so grateful since you work with a dr who deals with this directly. She says the cyst after draining becomes soft and mushy but this time there is this small thread of tissue. I guess my biggest worry due to my anxiey issues is cancer. Help ease my mind please and thank you.

The best thing to do is have it removed and biopsied. If it drains on it's own she needs to make sure she keeps warm compresses on it to keep it open. She could soak in a warm bath. The stringy tissue could be what is inside. The inside sometimes gets so thick, it could look stringy.

If she doesn't want it removed she should have a culture done. They could culture the contents on the inside and see what kind of bacteria keeps infecting it. But honestly, I would recommend a removal, it is pretty easy and the recovery is quick. They could remove it and check it to make sure it isn't cancer.

ALOT of women get these types of cysts, some are more prone then others. It seems like once they get one they just keep getting them.

Bartholin's cysts are almost never related to cancer, but a biopsy would ease your worries.

Simple drainage simply can't cure all Batholin's problems. The entire sac may need to be removed and then a procedure called "marsupialization" performed. Any gynecologist should be able to deal with this, since they are a surgical specialty.

Please be sure you discuss your fears with the doctor. Write them down and take to the appointment so you won't forget anything.

have her go to an obgyn DOCTOR. i had never heard of this, but last summer it happened to me out of the blue. i was told that it was a hemotoma and had to be surgically operated on. they did not remove the gland itself, thank goodness. the function of the gland is mainly to help moisturize and cleanse, so it's very valuable. the surgery for the hemotoma was scary and the recovery time was worse than with a hysterectomy if you ask me, which you did. as much as i would like to say it's a pretty common thing, it's not as common as they say it is. when it happened to me, not a single person i knew had any clue as to what i was talking about. please have your mom see a doctor.
