Good question!
Are we really concerned about others' welfare?
It is our self love that comes in the way of our ability to love others...... we ourselves alone are responsible for our inability to be good to others.
A typical response is ... 'yes, I am ready to give myself up for the sake of the people, but I need to first take care of my family'. The concern for our own family or our own near and dear ones is also a kind of selfish motive because all we are doing is to simply widen the circle around us to include our family etc. within an 'extended self'!!

Kathleen, It is a noble thought and it will be nobler still if it can be shown in action. You talk of "would love" in the future tense. The present is what the appropriate time to spread love .
The wise people say that loving others and the world at large is possible only if we love ourselves , in the first place. Many donot realise this. Only by intensely loving themselves they would know what love really is And, as a corollary what hate/jealously/ anger /pity are.
I would ask myself if I do that and if I don`t what should I do to start loving me. I would know that my love for the others should be unconditional and without barriers. Then I would argue within myself that if all people in the world would do that the earth would be a better place to live in.
The wise say that it at this meeting point the creator waits to meet you.

If you really want to show love to others you should read a book called "The Five Love Languages" by Gary Chapman. It talks about how different people require different things to feel loved but there are five basic groupings - or 'love languages' - which people can be grouped into. Everyone has a primary language which they naturally 'speak' to others when they wish to show their love but Chapman writes that if you're speaking your language to someone who has a different primary language to you then they won't see your act of love for what it is and may even resent you for doing such a thing.
It is a very interesting and relevant read and I highly recommend it to everyone. Many relationships - marriages, family, friendships - have been saved because of this five love language principle because all you need to do to make someone feel loved is to 'speak' to them in their primary love language.

yes, of course, i'd love to do the same. maybe the first thing we should do is muster enough kindness and share it around our immediate family and close friends. the kind of kindness that inspires people so that they, too, can give it away in their own circles.
but i'm speaking in general here, and in a more "philosophical" kind of way. concretely, there are a lot of things we can do to inspire others to do good. and i guess i need not really list them down here.
good luck to us all!

You can love people only by not interfering in their affairs and allow them to take their own decision. If it fails, help them to rectify it.
