Yes, the equatorial diameter is slightly larger than the polar diameter. But if you blew the best cue ball in billiards to the size of the Earth, it's would be far less spherical than the Earth and have far larger surface irregularities (Mountains on a cue ball the size of Earth would be about 10x's higher than Everest).

So yes, for all intents and purposes, it's round.

Yes. This has been known since antiquity, when the earth's shadow fell on the moon during a lunar eclipse. Around 250 BC, Eratosthenes, curator of the great library at Alexandria, measured the earth's size using a method that is still valid today. The earth is slightly flattened -- the diameter pole to pole is a bit less than the equatorial diameter. The presently accepted values are:
Polar radius -- 6356752.314 meters.
Equatorial radius -- 6378137.000 meters.

It used to be flat. Then someone sailed around it and found out it IS round.
Same reason why you find globes in the classroom .

yes it is. the real shape would be like if you were to get a rubber ball and squeeze it.. the north and south poles are almost flat.
