It was originally recorded by Tommy James & the Shondells (they also had a hit with "Crimson & Clover"). Tiffany of course had a hit with it in the 80's, and Click Five do a decent job of the song today. My favourite version though, is by Lene Lovich, on her first album "Stateless".
