I've spent lots of time in both countries and am Italian myself - husband is a Spaniard. Spanish and Italians alike are very varied in looks - in the north of both countries, you can get people much paler in complexion. I can distinguish between Italians and Spaniards, Italians are better looking!!! But I can't really say which people would have the darker skin - in the south of both countries, the people are darker skinned, but you have to remember that a lot of this is due to the hotter climate, therefore the skin is easier tanned. Also, some Spaniards are mixed with gypsies, especially in Andalucia. My family are from around Napoli - and generally the people there are very, very dark - almost Arab looking, also the people in Sicilia. Nordic blood would be in both Spaniards and Italians - but more in the north I think. There is also a Celtic influence in the north of Spain, and you can see some red haired and fair complexioned people in those regions.
PS> ITALIANS ARE NOT BLACK!

I'm Half Italian and it depends on whether they are northern or southern Italians . Northern Italy is inclined to be blond and fair skinned while southern Italy tends to be more dark skinned and haired. So the answer is Italy is more blond as it borders Switzerland. My grand father was Venetian and from Naples and
some of my brothers were extremely blond although my Mother was a brunette of Irish descent. Interesting question and I haven't a racist bone in my body.
peace out & enjoy the life

Italians, although Italians are a mixture of Blacks and Whites or so the very limited history goes. Not entirely certain if the bloodlines were distinct or just somehow tainted but whatever it maybe you do have to agree that Italian men are some of the most striking men on the planet,no?peace.Rizzo>.

It depends on the individual person; different people, even within the same ethnic group, have different skin tones. I guess I have to wonder why this is even an important issue to you?

i'm sorry but why do black people not understand that spanish people means people from SPAIN as in the EUROPEAN country (therefore white) and Italians too are white, not " a mix of black and white". if italians are a mix of black and white then the whole world is as we are all descendants of africa humanoids millions of years ago. check your history folks. modern day italians are descendants of romans, etruscans, normans, arabs (that's caucasians from the middle east to all the black muslims out there, go to saudi arabia and see if they think you are arab) and german tribes. that's italians. some are dark because of arab features. but dark, not black. black is a race not a color. and italians are a nationality not a race.
