My best friend died. She left me her guitar. I went to the lake to be alone to grieve. I met this old bum living on the lake in a tent. He was dying of alcoholism and looked very scarey. Still, I saw somthing in his eyes and I knew I had to help him. I found out he used to be in a band and he had pawned his guitar. I had my friends guitar in my car and I handed it to him and asked him to play. To my overwhelming surprise, his cracked dirty fingers rolled over the strings playing the most beautiful music I had ever heard, accompanied by the voice of an angel, totally on key. Tears uncontrolably rolled down my face. It took all my efforts, but I got him into a half-way house. After staying drunk for fourty years, he's now been sober going on five years, and he plays for free at charity events. 'And of course all my partys'. He's one of my best friends, now. Alot like the friend I had lost. My question is,"Was this fate?" Or is there another name for the series of events that took place"?

I don't believe it was fate. I think God was helping you to grieve by making the best of a bad situation...maybe I'm wrong, but people are always asking why God makes bad things happen. I think people have own free will--we are not God's puppets, and with evil in the world bad things can happen--like the death of your friend. But God can 'tug at our hearts.' He could have led you to that place. Talking with the guy, and making the connection between his being in a band and the guitar in your car was all you, although I'm sure it was His idea.
Maybe I am just rambling (I saw your request for more answers on this topic--I think people just don't want to scroll through the questions, so after a day or even hours, you are less likely to get answers).
I think it was God helping you to grieve and helping the man end his problems. One bad event, but two immediate good results, and now that you are sharing your story even more people are benifitting.
My problem with calling it fate is that takes your actions out of the picture. It was compassion that led you to help the man, not some predestined force.
I think it is a wonderful thing you did for that man--if only more people took time to be compassionate, can you image how great the world would be? I'm always amazed when I talk to homeless people--most of them are really great and smart people, they just normally have bad social skills or bad habits that hinder success. Thank you for helping!! And God Bless You!

You a good person no doubt. I do not believe in the word fate. I do believe in being in the right place at the right time. You were there, you done the right thing, and now you have a new wonderful best friend.

Some would say fate if you beleive in it, I'd say you lost a friend and god gave you someone that was in need of a friend. Right place at the right time I guess. But it's really what you beleive in I guess. Friends is one of gods gifts to happieness, br thankful,

Nothing happens by mistake in God's world. And it IS God's world. I have nearly 15 years sober, and I sure as heck didn't do it on my own. You were put in his life to help him. Be available and God will continue to use you in such ways to help his other children. This is nothing short of a MIRACLE.

You could say it was about being emotionally open and ready to find an opportunity where others would only see a threat.
Lovely story. Good luck to you both!

This was indeed fate and nice of you to do such. Misssion was accomplished and when you done it to this fellow you done it even unto God.

sounds to me like you had an angel looking over you and found someone to help you in your time of grief and to help fill the void that your friend left when she passed away.
