I have a 360 and I love it. Its not the most expensive either. Im not a fanboy, so I dont mind paying other consoles...I just think PS3 is too expensive and Sony is trying to shove alot of "new" technology down your throat. But, it also depends on what you want in a console. If you want a bluray player that also plays games..then get a PS3. If you like online gameplay, a console thats easy to use with a great interface, good games, and wont break the bank..then get a 360. If you just want some good 'ol fun..then get the Wii. I would like to also get a Wii sometime in the future..it just looks so damn fun!
Most of the issues that plagued the 360 are pretty much fading away..so dont let that be an issue. Mine works just fine..and its been 8 months now. Its just easy to use and actually has more RAM than the PS3, which means it dont take as long to load. If you want a motion controller then go with a Wii...Sony pretty much ripped that from them, and from what I've seen..you cant really use it as much during gameplay as the Wii. Plus, the PS3 no longer has the shock, vibrating, feature in its controller. I just dont think its the same playing without that.
So, decide what you want in a console and weigh your choices.
Good Luck!

The question you need to ask yourself is do I have an HDTV specifically a 1080p. Why? Because as it stands now any HDTV with less resolution is automatically scaled down to 480i on the PS3. Sony says that it will be corrected with a firmware update and has since released three that did nothing about. That being said if you do not have a 1080p HDTV you are buying a game system with SD Graphics and the ability to play DVD at SD quality for 500-600 or more. I would hope that people would think before spending that kind of money. If you have a 1080p television the blu-ray capability and the enhanced resolution may be worth it. Sony has a couple of cool franchises. Granted the games that came out at launch only included 2-3 rated above 7 on the game sites but they have promised many games next year.
If you don't have an HD TV like me or have an HD TV of say 720p then consider the 360. Has an awsome lineup of games (GEARS OF WAR), you can add HD DVD when you finally get your HDTV for about 200 bucks. It has a far superior online experience and has many games on the horizon that will make you change your shorts. The graphics right now are almost identical to those of the PS3 because no programmer has been able to fully utilize the PS3 full potential, and actuality they aren't even close to the 360's potential.
But lets face it I own a 360 and love it. PS3 way to expensive for me. If the PS3 survives the $300 loss per console, the HD scaleability problems, and the short supply issues long enough to see a price drop I might pick one up later.
Regardless of which system you choose, pick up the Wii too. I mean its not a power house and I wouldn't recommend it for your FPS, Play somebody on-line and whoop them machine like the 360. It dosn't have near the power of the PS3, but its hellaciously fun and would make a good break away from the intensity of the nex-gen games that are on the horizon.
Theres my answer hoped it helped.

As of this 2d, that's. you have the determination of having one properly worth $3 hundred or one properly worth $4 hundred that has greater stuff than the between the $3 hundred tag. If the youngster is youthful, await the Nintendo Wii. It comes November 19 at $250. rather you could have heard of that one with the distant for a interest controller. in the experience that your boyfriend has the money, then the Xbox 360 and the Wii are 2 super consoles. PS3 remains uncertain to me.
