it depends.....

ps3=over priced for graphics, your bro prob would not have the tv to make the ps3 worth the money. The PS3 is a deal in the way of the Blu ray, but the majority of tv's do not make use of the blu rays features.

xbox360=if your bro is into technology and has a windows computer then i would suggest this. It has streaming capabilities for music and video from a windows computer. You can also now rent movies and tv shows on it. The games are great, and microsoft is always up with technology

wii=If your bro is younger then this would probable be best. The system is more family based, and the controls are easier learned do to motion sensing capabilities and not so many buttons. The wii was designed with the casual and family fan base in mind It also has the best lineup of games that have a fanbase of all ages.

edit: no longer need media center. (thanks for the info kobe)

It depends on your brother, frankly.

In terms of sheer processing power, the PS3 is the strongest. It boasts multiple concurrently running processors, some dedicated to sheer graphic processing. It's processing ability is gaged at around 1 TeraFlop of operations per second; similar to the Cray-1 supercomputer. Furthermore, it has a Blue-Ray disc reader built into it; and if you don't know what Blue-Ray discs are, let's just say that they're 'the new dvd' and will probably completely replace DVDs in the next two or three years (like CDs replaced VHS).

The XBox 360 is similar in terms of its raw processing power. Very high and sophisticated. So great in fact, that Microsoft and Sony both actually take a LOSS whenever they sell a system (they plan to make up for it in game costs).

But powerful systems do not great games make. Take a look at the gamecube - way more powerful than the N64 and yet with the exception of Smash Brothers Melee, you'll be very hard pressed to find any memorable and frequently played multiplayer games....whereas the N64 which was so much weaker than it in terms of graphics power had some of the most innovative and best multiplayer games in its era (mainly because it had 4 controllers).

But I digress, The XBox 360 and PS3 have a major drawback...the price tag. $500 and $600 respectively.

I would *HIGHLY* advise you to get your brother a Wii.
1.) The Wii's innovative new controller (the wii-mote) has tilt-sensitivity, and thus can be used as a fishing rod, a jackhammer, a chainsaw, a baseball bat, a tennis racket, a sword, a boxing glove, the butt of a rifle, etc. etc. etc.

2.) The wii-mote has 'point-sensitivity'. That means that when you point it at the screen somewhere, it can register where it's pointing. This is INVALUABLE for: shooters (using the wii-mote as a gun), and First-Person adventures....both of which are currently dominating the market as a whole.

3.) Nintendo's Wii has introduced a new system that allows you to play SNES, NES, Sega Genesis, N64, AND Gamecube games on it as well as your Wii games...Possibly the biggest legal video game library in existence at this time.

4.) It has Wi-Fi capabilities; so you can do MultiPlayer with anyone anywhere else in the world. (Xbox 360 and PS3 have this too, but Nintendo's works with all their old games that they're re-releasing).

5.) You can use the classic-style controller if you don't want to use the new wii-mote. Many developers are taking advantage of this most notably HAL Laboratories in their production of Super-Smash Brothers: Brawl.

6.) The Price Tag: $250.

7.) The wii-mote (controller) has a speaker in it as well as a rumble-pack. Not only can you feel the vibration, but when it's desired, the wii can give a 'surround sound' type effect by having, say, the sound of you drawing back an arrow from your hand, and then thunking by the speakers in the screen.

Get a Wii.

Heh. Well depends on your limits. The Wii and PS3 which I assume your talking about? Those are sold out everywhere so if your talking bout a holiday thing your talking almost 1000 to over 1000 for the PS3, and 500-600 for the Wii.

The 360 is available and out there. That's probably your easiest to obtain. All depends on what your brother likes to do on them. But the Wii is interactive whre you can control motion. The PS3 and 360 are going to have nearly identical programming, besides the fact that PS has a tendency to release tons of games, whereas microsoft 360 will release quite a handful of games, though not as much as Sony. Microsoft usually releases better games though.

I love the Wii. The controllers have sensors in them. You can use it to play a football game, bowling, boxing, and all sorts of others. Its extremely interactive. In my opinion, the PS3 is the same as the PS2, just shinnier. The graphics are a TAD better, but I'd get him the Wii.

360. More games available. Decent prices, tons of accessories.

Greek, by the way if you're reading this, you don't need Windows Media Center to stream videos anymore. The last update made it possible to stream videos using Windows Media Connect. The only catch is that you can only stream WMV's.
