It is not playing, my dear. It is learning.

A child gets all his learning lessons through playing only. What looks to us as playing, is in fact study of this world which he finds so enjoying.

I can give you three:

1. Play enhances children's decision-making skills and self-esteem - Play provides opportunity for children to make decisions by enabling them to choose the equipment and materials with which they play at their chosen activities. These decisions made helps a child learn self-importance, and the child's self-esteem gets a boost.

2. Play enhances children's logic and reasoning - Children need access to outdoor space and freedom to play out their fantasies to achieve optimal brain development, since the area of the brain that processes logic and order has not fully developed and the children depend more on their inner feelings.

3. Play encourages healthy physical development - Obesity in children is believed to be caused by lack of physical activity (play), as most children spend more hours watching tv instead of going outside to play.

Depends. As children get older, pretend play starts to develop. It is a cognitive skill that children are learning. If children do not display pretend play, there is something wrong with their development (for example, they could have autism).

It builds their brain. It allows them escape through fantasy. It allows them to practice with situations. It helps them build skill in cognitive and motor abilities. It allows them to be creative and imagine. It helps them learn to entertain themselves alone, and it helps them socialize if they play with others.
