Real piercings are always fun.

A cartilage piercing is not bad overall, its done and over with quickly and the worst part is for the next few weeks your ear is a bit sore to sleep on. It takes about 6 months to heal, but can take up to a year. You should look for a professional piercer in your area and get it done. Just be sure to take care of it and you'll be fine. Worst case is you don't like it and have to take it out.

In the cartilage of the ear, you mean? With any piercing, its going to hurt and from experience it is going to take a while to heal. So if you're up to taking care of a piercing for 6 months to year, plus enduring a little bit of pain (it really isn't bad though) for a split second, then go for it!

I have my ear pierced there and it didn't hurt to get it done, but it stayed sore for a long time (a few months). I couldn't sleep on that side or if I accidentally bumped it with my hair brush it would hurt.
I have many other piercings that didn't hurt as much, but everyone is different and you won't know until you try.
Good luck!

I'm coming from a medical standpoint, specifically auricular therapy/acupuncture which was developed in France and Japan.
I think you should know the medical affects of piercing the ear.

Just a brief description of auricular acupuncture, the ear is a map of the entire body. (reflexology) It's very effective and used regularly for people suffering from drug addictions to acute pain or chronic illnesses.

Sounds like you're thinking of piercing the helix, I would suggest against it because you'll be constantly stimulating that area which will affect the correlating part of the body.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not like gungho against ear piercing. Just think you should know the medical affects of piercing.

No to scare you, but, though it doesn't hurt at all (to Me) but I ever did it once and for some reason it closed up, so I wanted to re-pierce again but the 2nd time, I went to the shop and the person told me that I have lots of tiny veins around that area and it is actually very dangerous for me to pierce.

So my advice is to make sure you go to a reputable shop and seek the expertise of the professionals..

well, i really believe you shud juz go for it..with a REAL piercer...meaning not juz any shop using the piercing gun u noe..guns r only for lobes..i had my cartilage pierced a year ago with a gun n boy, i regretted it..i noe there are some people who had no problems whatsoever but still, better to be safe than sorry rite..so go on ahead to a piercer, it will be over in a few seconds and i'm not saying it will be painless but its definitely bearable..a few seconds only anyway..unlike tattoos, piercings heal slower so be prepared to take care of it to prevent infections which will hurt more than the piercing process itself. juz clean ur piercing with a saline solution [1/8 table or sea salt in 8 oz boiled water] not more than twice a day..n DON'T touch ur piercing with unclean hands [tempting, but don't] other than tat it's mostly common sense so...gud luck! u go girl!

I have mine done, and most times unless someone mentions it, I forget it's there. As long as you trust the piecer, it shouldn't hurt at all. Just make sure you take care of it and clean it often for the first 2 weeks or so. Try not to sleep on that side either.

You should be! Nature did not put holes in your ears, neither should you! What ever you plan on doing with holes, it will not help you intelligence, make you look nicer, or more desirable, all of that comes from inside you.

well it only hurts for a second, just be sure to keep it clean cause the real pain comes with infection
