Do something he'd really appreciate like taking him to a special event.
For example. James Bond- every guy likes 007 and why not give him two tickets to see it.
Or you could bake something, that really does the trick. And if he's a health freak, bake something healthy.
Anything else would be something of good use. Can you recall of anything he's needed or wanted like a new blender or a Trans Siberian Orchestra CD.

How about a gift certificate to his favorite store or restaurant. It would show that you pay attention to him :)
