So every now and then my car will drive fine for a few minutes then ill stop at a stop light and then when it turns green and i try to go the engine will rev but barely move...this sometimes happens when I first start it after it sat... The transmission fluid is fine. Any ideas?

Yes, I believe you have a slipping transmission. Especially after the car has "warmed up" a little. IF your car will immediately go in REVERSE, but not forward... this is proof that the automatic transmission is bad. Have you tried putting the gear selector in 2nd, instead of L or D?
How many miles or kilometers are on the car? HIGH? Or check CONSUMER REPORTS MAGAZINE for a report on the car by 1000 owners of the same car. Also bad transmission reports from them? My guess is you have an American Motors Jeep Cherokee?

It sounds like your torque converter.

When you give it gas and the engine speeds up and the fluid in the torque converter starts to get moved threw the turbine faster which causes more torque to go to the wheels. That lets you move.

check the transmission itself out for n e faulty moving parts, if not, definatly check the ignition coil, its located on or near your cap and rotor assembly, same thing happen to my dads maxima not long ago, but it was more of a lagging sensation
