Granted, a lot of today's automobiles can not be fixed at home, but good grief, you ought to be able to refill your own fluids in your driveway.

If you have not the skills to do the simplist car maintainance will you regularly be ripped off? Yep.

Google Honda civic lx 5-speed add the year and click send. Learn how. Now.

Everything in those engine compartments are so crammed and jammed together that you either need to have extremely little hands with long fingers or some special tool..or both.
At least take a look to see if you can see where it goes and where it comes out.
It could be a real piece of cake to do it yourself. HAHAHAHAA
Yep, go to PitStop or JiffyLube or something like that.
If you go to a reg. garage you run the risk of them not doing a darn thing and charging you for it ...and if you go to the dealership you will know that it has been done right(hopefully).
It's up to you
Whatever you figure is the least of all the evils ..go for it.

Ok. I am a chic and I know the answer to this trick question! A manual transmission does NOT have fluid. It does, however, have gear oil and any shop (ex. JiffyLube) can change this for you. One of these kinds of places will probably be cheaper than the dealership. You really do not need to do this at 57K miles either. Check your manual. It is probably recommended at 100-120K miles.

Transmission fluid is an identical for guide and computerized. get rid of the drain nut and drain the fluid. There must be a filler nut close to the properly of the unit. you should apply a hand pump to pump the fluid in. save checking the point with techniques from putting your finger. even as the fluid is close to the bottom of the filler nut hollow then that must be adequate. you could favor 4 quarts.

Dealers suck, as a rule. Price them competitively against other garages.

If you fix it yourself, don't drain it until you know where the fill pipe is :)

Lulu, a lot of newer manual transmissions actually take automatic transmission fluid, I'm not sure why. Check first.

P.S. Synthetic oil is gooooooood stuff. Costs 3x as much but works much better, and how often do you change transmission fluid?

its actually not that hard, but if you find yourself wanting to get it done somewhere else, midas is a great place to do it. even walmart has their own line of automotive section now (lol, i know eh?).

just go to your local automotive place and ask how much it would cost.

as for getting it done with the dealer..it depends. some dealers actually charge little, bu usually they over charge. i would look elsewhere instead of the dealer. but it never hurts to get a complete price estimate. (always specify yuo want to know the TOTAL price estimate. and don't let them get vague on you. this applies to ALL automotive places.)
