Everyone dreams, some people just don't remember their dreams when they wake up. If you remember a dream, it means that you were woken up in the middle of it. You will probably not feel as rested, because you were woken up in the middle of a sleep cycle. Sleep cycles typically last 90 minutes, to get the best sleep, plan to be asleep for a multiple of 90 minutes.

From an oriental medicine point of view...

Having many dreams can be a sign and symptom of blood deficiency. (There are other possibilities also...)

My question would be what time do you go to sleep?
How many hours do you usually sleep?
Are you going through any sort of stress?
Have you been lacking energy? Get easily tired? Low stamina?

If you are blood deficient (i have no idea w/o diagnosing you in person) a dietary way of treating it would be adding raspberries and red beets to your diet. Have 1/2 a bag of raspberries in the morning before breakfast and before dinner. (Frozen raspberries are a lot cheaper)
Add some steamed red beets to your dinner. (NOTE: red beets will make your urine red, so don't mistaken it for blood.)
What the raspberries and red beets do is allow your liver to increase it's capacity to hold blood, thus over time increasing the amount of blood in your body.
Do this for a month and see how you feel. You should have more energy and you should stop dreaming. (Assuming you're sleeping at a good time and not under a lot of stress)

Essential Oils can be used to help you sleep better. Rub a drop of lavendar oil about 2 thumb widths away from the center of your wrist in between the two ligaments OR you can rub it on the center of your chest at the level of the nipples. (Warning: This is only a temporary solution. This is something you DO NOT want to do over a long period of time [mth or longer] because eventually it will become a stimulant.)

Go to sleep no later than 10pm.

In the end there are many different possibilities on why you're dreaming. I would see an acupuncturist.

Hi,

There is no such thing as a 'dreamless' night. One of the stages of sleep is known as REM sleep. This is where the world of dreams begins. It is a necessary stage that the brain goes through, in order to rejuvenate itself.

It so happens that one tends not to remember dreams as vividly during some nights than in others.

I am currently writing on the subject of dreams and lucid dreams, perhaps you may keep in touch with my blog - http://success-nirvana.blogspot.com.

You dream every night; however, you only remember dreams if you wake up during a particular stage of the sleep cycle. So to answer your question: dreaming has no effect on the quality of sleep you get.

In general better, but evertone dream just some don't remember.

If you are taking medication or drinking alcohol, people tend to dream more and in these case the sleep you get is not as good .You might have noticed that you can feel tired even if you have slept for hours.

you dream during your "deep sleep" so it would indicate a better night of sleep
If you are dreaming of scary or disturbing things such as getting killed you will be disrupted or even fully awoken. of course this leads to a worse night of sleep.
