Hopefully we all already know the translation of metaphysics. Aristotle named his book that because it came after his book on physics. It is without a doubt philosophy. Metaphysics deals with creating consistent worldviews that adhere to reality. The philosophical word for worldview is ontology. So Metaphysics creates ontologies.

PS. Philosophy of science is its own field of philosophy separate from Metaphysics.

PPS. Philosophy of religion primarily deals with questions of the afterlife or souls or anything like that. Metaphysics can involve such things but modern metaphysics tends to stay away from such issues. Blobjectivism, philosophy of mind, and pure consciousness events are some examples of metaphysical topics that involve no such spiritualism.

PPPS. Metaphysics has nothing to do with Chi, Ki, Reiki, Feng Shui, Psychic phenomena, Ghosts, or anything that McClain lady would wright about. (I had a bad experience in a Boarders once.)

Metaphysics means Meta - beyond, physics - nature. It is that which deals with the nature of reality. It encompasses whether there can be such a thing as God or an afterlife, whether there is a soul and the limits of reality. Epistemology asks what we can know, Metaphysics asks what is real.
