I've got a yamaha YPT-300 and the acoustic guitars are actually believable, but the samples for "distorted guitar" and "overdriven guitar" are just crap. It's really not just the tonal qualities of the sample, it's the fact that every time you hit the same key you get the same sound. On a guitar, you can play one note over and over and it'll sound a bit different every time. So do any keyboards actually have the ability to sound like electric guitars? I've heard the tyros 2 and i'm only mildly impressed by that. It just baffles me because they can sounds like anything else!

Re: 3rd answer down

Who says I want to be "soloing" anyway? I'm trying to add convincing guitar sounds, single notes in fact that double with the piano bass line that sounds like guitar. Who wants to solo with anything other than a guitar anyway heheh? Oh yay a sterile sounding fast paced oboe shredding session!

if you think the tyros stinks you are probably not going to find an acceptable replacement. motif and tritons won't help ya.

I've never heard a synthetic guitar voice that sounded even slightly convincing. The sound is just too complicated, I think. There's the scratching noise of the friction of the pick against the strings, a bunch of overtones, weird harmonies and the body of the guitar resonating too...the keyboard would literally have to have artificial intelligence because the current guitar sound would be affected by the previous states, if there are any residual vibrations...there would have to be some sort of randomizer involved too- it's just not feasible unless you devote a whole computer to do that one single job.

You are probably use to a guitar, but the piano, flute and other instruments change their sounds slightly too.

man, if you're gonna be soloing with a keyboard - take advantage of the spectrum of NON-GUITAR sounds you can use!
