I had my 7 year old female spayed in July, and she was just fine..It costs $90 here, or $45 if we go through the low cost program, for a 20 pound dog.
Males are $50-60, depending on size.
If you don't chose the humane societies low cost program, then be sure to call all vets in your town, to get prices, as one here charges much more then the other..

As far as I know (cat lover here) animals can be spayed/neutered at any time. The cost for female animals generally is slightly higher than males (again cats) simply because with a female animal they actually have surgery rather than a little snip and squeeze of the male genatalia.
The cheapest place to have your pet spayed/neutered is at the local animal shelter, but mine all have had the same vet for years.

Costs vary by state, and location. Provided that your animals are all in good health, there is no reason why they cannot be spayed or neutered later in life. For the males, it is usually no riskier if done early or later in life. For females, depending on what point in their heat cycle they may be in, or if they've had pups before, they could be slightly more difficult, and thus cost a little more, but that's no reason not to spay them. I would recommend getting bloodwork done before hand (some vets require it for pets over a certain age) to make sure they have no underlying health issues. I would also recommend fluids during the surgery (again, some vets require it for certain surgeries, some for all surgeries). Since they are older you want to maximize any assistance you can give them during the surgery.

Yes, The cost depends on the size of the dog and if its a female they charge more if she is in season or pregnant. Call your local animal shelter, most of them have a low cost spay/neuter clinic. If they don't do it then they will tell you what vet or Shelter does do it.

I had a cat that had never been spayed nor had any babies. I assumed she was sterile. She ended up having a stillborn baby last summer and felt like she still had babies in her, but they never came out.
They had to do an emergency spay on her and removed a ball of dead kitties. They said if they hadn't, it would've killed her. She was almost 11 years old. She is absolutely fine now.
As for cost, depends on where you live. I'd say starting at $65 on up. I've checked prices at several in my town and they all vary. Call around and check prices. In February a lot of places have spay day where they do it for a reduced cost.

a dog cannot get pregnant at 6 weeks and the soonest the vet will probably allow it is at 6 mths i have never heard of a dog needing to weigh two pounds or having to drop their testicles, some dogs donot ever reach two pounds and other dogs may take a year to drop their testicles a good vet should be able to easily spay/nueter your animals at 6 mths. what to expect no food after midnight the night before the surgery, they may give you pain meds, the dogs may end up with an E- collar or elizabethian collar if they mess or lick at the sutures, the sutures should be in a striaght line and clean, there may be some bruising around the incision site, also while under ansthesia you may look into getting a show trim on their nails :).... if by some odd act of nature ur female goes into heat before 6mths just make sure the dogs are seperated

Doesn't matter how old they are as long as there healthy. To answer your second question the price depends on where you live and the sizes of you dog.And of coarse the sex a male is far cheaper to alter than a female.I live in Washington state where we have a mobile spay station called Pasado Safe Haven. If you get any state assistance you can have your cat or dog alered on their van for free.

You can still have your pets spayed/neutered. I'm not sure what the costs are though. Best of luck to you.
