An icon will be visible on your system tray, when you are connected to the internet (a icon having two computers, which will blink when connected). That is the Network and dial-up connection icon.
Just place your mouse over that icon and it will show the Internet connection speed in a tool tip window.

go to http://pcpitstop.com/internet/default.asp click on meassure Download speed and then click on run bandwith and wait for the results
