I pledged Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity during my sophomore year, following in my sister's footsteps. Yes, service based, but I got a lot more out of the experience than just the service hours. My best friend is also a brother from the same chapter, as are so many of the friends I've kept in touch with.

it depends...some sororities are actually fraternities. for example, delta delta delta is classified in their charter as being a fraternity. most academic fraternities are co-ed. you would need to research individual organizations to find out. AFA (a fraternity advising organization) may be able to help you compile that list.

I don't think any fraternities let girls join

That why we have sororities.
Its the girl version of a fraternities.

frater and soror are latin. Frater meaning "brother" and soror meaning "sister"

I don't know specific names, but there are a few co-ed frats. But I'm almost certain that none of them are social organizations- they're academic and service-oriented organizations.
