You should never bath a hamster, their fur has a protective layer, and natural oils, which would be washed out by the water. My advice would be to look for a Chinchilla Sand Bath. Hamsters love these, and mucking around in them gets the dirt off their coat. If you have say, got a hamster with something sticky, or such, an unscented baby wipe would be recommended. Sometimes hamsters dislike these, so let her/ him sniff the wipe first, and get used to it. If you have never wiped your hamster, sometimes for a hamster, the sensation can be shocking. Give her/ him a treat while you gently stroke the wipe. After a while, gradually apply some pressure, so you are efficiently cleaning. Give her another treat half way through, and at the end. Very, very, incredibly RARELY, hamsters have a reaction. You should then take her/ him to the vets, after about an hour of checking nothing has changed. The reactions can vary. SOMETIMES, instead of this, a cheaper, quicker and the hamster will love this way, a bristled old tooth brush would be a lot BETTER. This would mean no reaction. Gently stroke the hard bristled UNUSED tooth brush against your hamster, gradually applying slight pressure to get away any of the dirt. Otherwise, don't worry. Good luck... By the way, in case you are worried about the reaction, this happens incredibly rarely, about 1 in 1000. But that is why I would advise you just stroke once gently across her/ his fur, and wait for five minutes. If nothing occurs, your hamster should be fine. Good luck!!!

Hamsters are very clean animals. They bathe themselves. Do not get him wet with anything. They get cold very easily. Buy him new supplies. Change soiled & wet bedding everyday. Clean the total cage every week.

Get bath sand and what I like to call hamster bath tub!(A tissue box, tupperware with lid off, some places make them) Put the bath tub in the cage with the sand in it. Your hamster will love to roll around in it! do this every week!

If he is tame enough to bathe him, use a mild shampoo or even a tiny amount of dishwashing liquid in some warm water. Rinse thoroughly, but be careful the hamster doesn't get water in his nose.
Dry him as well as you can, be sure he doesn't get cold.
If the hamster resists and tries to bite, be careful not to let him fall or get squished, as hamsters are fragile. It would be better to let him stay dirty a while than to risk hurting him. If you keep him in clean litter, he may clean himself up.
There is no truth to the idea that getting his tail wet will kill him. "Wet tail" is a term used to describe hamster diarrhea; it has nothing to do with bathing.

Now that he or she has a good home I would just give it some clean bedding and freash food and water and give it a day. He (or she) might just clean up on their own. If after a couple of days there is still no improvement I would head to you nearest exotic veterinarian.

You could try wiping him with a wet washcloth, I wouldn't use soap tho because it could leave a film and poison him when he cleans his self. Be careful because he will probably try to bite you. Getting some strong smelling Cedar chips might help. Good Luck.

First fasten a net in the bottom of of your toliet bowl.
Next, lather some shampoo and put it in there.
Throw the hamster in and flush, to rinse flush again.
Lather, rinse, repeat.
Ha ha , Seriously, you don't need to bathe it, it is self cleaning. The cage on the other hand.....
