Thales is the recognised father of philosphy. As Socrates left no written works whatsoever it is difficult to say whether he is the most influential figures in Philosophy. Plato uses him as a mouthpiece in his dialogues but it is not certain that he said everything attributed to him. In any event whilst it can be said that he has rightly a elevated position among philosophers I would not agree that he was more influential than Aristotle and, given his method of interrogation I would hesitate to say he could be viewed as the most influential.

There were many philosophers before Socrates--often lumped together as the "Pre-Socratics." Parmenides and others. Socrates himself said that everything he knew he learned from Diotima of Mantinea. At least according to Plato.

I'd go for Immanuel Kant. As he himself said he caused a 'copernican' revolution in philosophy, by saying that the true essence of reality will always be beyond our reach, because our knowledge will always be mediated by our senses and our brain. The greater part of 19th & 20th century philosophy is an answer or an extension to this.

VOLTAIRE, was virtually THE advisor, one could almost say, indirectly the ruler, or director of almost all European history in the 1700's, leading advice to Katerine the Great of Russia who strengthened the Russian Empire immensley and improved public life, ushering in civil liberties, and setting the mindset for French Revolution, and influenced Frederick the Great of Prussia (Germany). He had most of the superpowers of Europe interested in his philosophy and changed the course of world history and changed our western civilization forever.
