ahh i dont quite get the question but if this is your idea:

if you want to move the numbers from :
1. Leftside to Rightside
x - 2 = 6
x = 6 + 2
x = 8
2. Rightside to Leftside
x - 2 = 6 - 2
x -2 + 2 = 6
x = 6
Sign will be change if you move positive or negative number from LEFTSIDE to RIGHTSIDE
Sign will be not change if you move positive or negative number from RIGHTSIDE to LEFTSIDE
