The pain/struggle of being stuck under crappy circumstances (this could be anything, like being poor to being fat), or the pain/struggle of working hard to change it?

In my opinion, it'd be the pain/struggle of working hard to change it, most people don't like to change and are afraid of changes even they realize how bad the circumstance is. It takes courages and motivation to make changes, and that's not something can be easily done.

I agree with JB....being in the circumstance suggests that the person isnt seeing the end of the road. But the person who is living the pain/struggle of working hard to change a crappy circumstance can see the end of the road and has a plan to get there.

Of course, the pain/struggle of being stuck in a situation is worse than the struggle to change it.

If you are stuck in a situation and see no way out, this can lead to terrible things like serious depression and suicide.

However, the struggle to change it is no picnic either. Why? Because even though you may try as hard as possible to change, there is always the possibility of failure. Then what happens?

The pain of struggle is worse, because it's something you bring about by yourself so your body/mind are screaming at you at every step of the way to stop, that it's just worth it to stay under the crappy circumstances. But that struggle is worth it because it usually means change and freedom from that circumstance.

Been in "crappy circumstances" for a long period of time. Was painful to be in it, but was never stuck, 'cause worked very hard to change it and did. The worse pain is in the "thinking" of being stuck.

If your stuck you tend to reach a point of resignation like being numb. you don't feel anything. So for me, change is hardest. I feel it is in the nature of the beast to resist change. From struggle comes growth. the greater the struggle...

I would say the first one because it seems to me that if you could work to change it then that might give you hope

As someone who has been through both - the former is worst by far. One at least has the possiblity of improving - though at times it seems far away.

i think emotional pain is the toughest. when someone very close to me hurts me i get shattered. i can really get over it easily and even if i do a scar remains. emotional pain doesnt even get acknowledged and ppl tend to laugh it off, that's is even more painful.
