Most yeast infections are caused by a type of yeast called Candida albicans. A healthy vagina has many bacteria and a small number of yeast cells. The most common bacteria, Lactobacillus acidophilus, help keep other organisms—like the yeast—under control. When something happens to change the balance of these organisms, yeast can grow too much and cause symptoms. Taking antibiotics sometimes causes this imbalance. The high estrogen levels caused by pregnancy or hormone replacement therapy can also cause it. So can certain health problems, like diabetes or HIV infection. What are the symptoms? A yeast infection causes itching or soreness in the vagina and sometimes causes pain or burning when you urinate or have sex. Some women also have a white discharge that looks a little like cottage cheese and has no odor. These symptoms are more likely to occur during the week before your menstrual period. How is a vaginal yeast infection diagnosed? It’s easy to guess wrong about a vaginal infection. See your doctor if you aren't sure what you have or if this is the first time you have had these symptoms. Also see your doctor if you are pregnant. Your doctor may want to do a vaginal exam. How is it treated? If you have had a yeast infection before and can recognize the symptoms, and you aren't pregnant, you can treat yourself at home with medicines you can buy without a prescription. You can use an antifungal cream or suppository that you put into your vagina or antifungal tablets that you swallow. If your symptoms are mild, you may want to wait to see if they clear up on their own. Yeast infections are common during pregnancy. If you are pregnant, don't use medicine for a yeast infection without talking to your doctor first.

Trust me, no one knows if you didn't tell them and I'm sure others cannot smell the infection. You'll be fine, I'm sure.

It is advised to go to a doctor, but I definitely can understand why someone would want to avoid a doctor. I hate doctor visits. Anyway, I would suggest any of the 3 day over the counter treatments--even the generic brands. They have always worked for me. I did try the 1 day before and I suggest that you don't use it. It caused me to itch so bad that I was nearly in tears--worse than the infection itself. Also, it doesn't hurt to eat yogurt and drinking plenty of water until the infections goes away. Also, wearing cotton undies helps too! I hope it feels better soon.

By the way, if it doesn't start getting better within a week, then make sure you see a doctor.

Just do monistat 7 day cream and insertion and drink lots of water and your yeast infection should go away... If the problem consists after the 7 day treatment then see a doctor... Also stay away from bread, noodles, anything made out of yeast..And take showers not baths..Hope this helps..

Go to a good health food store ( super supplements if you have it) that has a refrigerated section, get a bottle of acidophlious pills and follow directions, they work great, and work for vaganitis, kinda like a yeast infection only worse. oh and eat yogurt too (not with the medicine though, a different time of day)

if this is your first one go to the doctor, it may even not be yeast infection, it could also be bacterial infection. to be sure go to a gyne. there are different kinds of creams, vaginal tablets available, your doctor can prescribe the right one for you based on your severity of symptoms.

I know this is going to sound gross, but my gyn. once told me to douche with plain yogurt mixed in warm water.... Something about the cultures in the yogurt that kill the yeast bacteria or something.
Give that a shot...

Either get that, or if you have access to Miconazole Nitrate.
^^That's the active ingredient in monistat.

Not if it's your first.

It is best to see a Gyn for treatment. And, nobody knows you have an infection. Relax, girl.
