Yes, your hormones trigger water retention. it is nothn to worry about. when you hold or retain fluid this causes you to become irratable. most pms symptoms like all over discomfort comes from fluid retention. I have the same problem each month. This is a time that I like elastic.

I usually gain about 5 pounds on my period, I get quite bloated even though I try to eat right (meaning healthy except for a lot of chocolate lol). There are months I've seriously gained as much as 10 pounds which freaked me out, but it went away after my period was over.

You don't really gain weight from your period, but during your period women often bloat from such things as water retention. Watching your sodium intake can reduce this a little bit or taking a diuretic. Also, it may seem like it as well since many women binge eat during that time. I know I have!

Yes, its called water retention and bloating. You can take midol or another pill to help with the bloating.

Although the experience of physical, psychological, and/or behavioral changes ( including bloating ) around the time of your period is well known to many women, the exact cause/s of PMS (premenstrual syndrome) are still unknown. Whether these symptoms are due to changes in hormone levels, or to negative attitudes and experiences with menstruation is yet uncertain. These changes would also be relevant to those times after your period, when your hormone and emotional levels are again readjusting. While research continues, here are a few suggestions to help during these uncomfortable times:

Watch your diet -- it sounds as if you are already pretty conscious of this, but limit your salt intake (sodium contributes to water retention), and try to avoid caffeine, alcohol, and sugar for greater emotional stability during these times.
Increasing your consumption of Vitamin B6, available in such foods as whole grain breads and cereals, green vegetables, lean meats, milk, cheese, dried peas and beans, nuts and seeds, eggs, poultry, and fish.
Keep physically active--it sounds as if you know about this as well, but vigorous exercise, with perspiration, may relieve some of your water retention.
Stay away from diuretics such as Acutrim because most diuretics deplete the body of potassium, an essential mineral.

Yep! Sometimes you can gain a little weight from your period. Water weight, though, so it'll go away after a little while. And while you're at it, don't be concerned about your actual weight--as long as you're shrinking inchwise, you're doing fine. You may just be building muscle mass!

Most women experience a temporary water weight gain. This temporary weight gain can be significant - up to seven pounds, I hear - but the weight is quickly lost again...until next month.

It's just water weight but once your period is gone the weight will come off.

when a female is on her period she "bloats"..... she feels fatter or chubbier anything like that, but you shouldn't have to work out everyday though. it's a natural thing for a girl and sometimes girls don't "bloat" when there are on their period. females are the same but different at the same time.
